My guess is that she thinks it has to be him because he also had that book, feeling that if he likes that author too then maybe he can understand her also, she felt a very strong connection to the story of his first work, like she said as if it was written for her. Assuming she doesn't know her teacher is in fact the author she might just think that finding a fan of this unpopular author is already a great coincidence.
