@NagatoKaiNi I don't remember the series making him dumb. He was just too dense to notice anything. He could have kept going, enjoying the friendship even if he had noticed. But he didn't. He seemed to never suspect anything at all.

There's a difference between noticing Asuka's feelings and not wanting to disrupt the status quo, and being a full 100% unaware of it even though she's spilling her love "symptoms" all over the place
(being less perceptive to social cues or non-verbal expression doesn't make someone dumb, btw)

I feel like the series makes him out to be more dense here than is merited. He seems about normal on the perceptiveness front? Within a single standard deviation at any rate.

Like, she wasn't dropping hints everywhere like in a typical romcom gag plot or anything. Some dramatic-admissions-under-her-breath notwithstanding, she'd mostly just been a good friend, and acting like one. And I know I wouldn't just assume any longtime friend had a crush on me without a lot of evidence. That would just get awkward.
