The doctor should definitely be a keter or k class scenario just for how long it has lived and it's knowledge of the scps and other k class objects or forces. Besides it's know of the pestilence which can also be a k class scenario.

@Mnuchinboo that's not how classifications work. It's based on whether the SCPs can be easily contained (Safe), containable with extra measures in place for safeguarding (Euclid), or extremely difficult to contain or outright uncontainable (Keter).

049's creator has written many more interesting SCPs as well, as far as I know. The plague doctor's design and side stories are so cool!

The old 049's personality was made to replicate the plague doctors of old, while the new one's was more emotional and dynamic. Didn't realize there was a newer version of 049 up until now, it's objectively better due to the report being longer, but the old one will still have that nostalgic feeling that made SCPs SCPs.

The thing about pestilence make me really curious, but I bet it's just his insanity.

According to the discussion on scp 045 and some notes, it seems that the original author (Gabriel Jade, if the comments on the discussion about it are correct) was convinced of rewritting the Plague Doctor in a way that didn't include so many redactions and data expunged, plus added some more flavor to the character through more interactions. Nowaydays that seems to be the standard of the site (scp or scp-related subjects experiences/interactions with them) so not much of a surprise that last point. A good recent example of that is scp 4205.

Rewrites aren't supposed to happen. It's supposed to be a 1-off entry with some edits and formatting overhauls.
If you go off and change whole entries (one of the originals, no less) with no justification for the changes, then it's not SCP anymore. It's a boring OC donutsteel fanfiction site.

There is no SCP canon. The writers are constantly changing things. For example, the classification system was changed drastically from a simple to understand format to a complicated wank fest. Also, in case you missed it, this is the OVERSIMPLIFIED version. It does not contain all the details, and will deviate to tell a better story. The author, illustrator, and translator are doing great jobs. Thank you for your efforts.

Pretty sure that Mnuchinboo is intentionally ignoring the classification criteria. I've seen them comment on other SCPs and how they should be Meter because they're dangerous, too.
