In the novel, the knights were completely crushed by the cannon (they did get close enough to require grapeshot, but still further out since the riflemen didn't get to fire anything)

Also there was no night scene on Roland side, just the duke's horror-themed moments of the 1st army's soldiers constantly hounding them.

The battle went pretty different compared to the LN

First of all there was suppose to be a wave of infantry. The cannons kills and scare off the infantry but the Duke orders the knights to charge anyways. The cannons shoot grapeshot at the knights twice and basically annihilate them to the point the musketeers don't even shoot. Also artist doesn't seem to understand how cannons work go figure.
