Seeing this video reminded me how much much a dick Greg was. And the cheese touch.

Yeah, Diary of a Wimpy Kid was one of my favorite things to read until around the ninth book came out. (then anime slowly consumed my life) But yeah the amount of times he's an absolute dick towards Rowley is insane. Like, I remember at one point where they were both in trouble for doing something and Greg decided that "I'll do the right thing and let Rowley take one for the team" and when Rowley got off easy for it and I think he got hot chocolate or something, Greg acted like Rowley was being a selfish asshole

@MemeSlayer09 I remember that one. That incident was how Greg sprayed painted the schools walls for an advertisement and Rowley snitched him.

I loved that series because it was the first time in forever we saw a series targeted at kids that let the MC be such a full an unrepentant selfish asshole.
I find it kinda sad how that concept seems to upset people today, having a child main character who doesn't realize they're the jerk in most situations. They used to be super common in kid novels from the 80s and prior, but I think now it's seen as victim-blaming (since Greg causes 90% of his own problems) or teaching bad morals. Kids are jerks. It's fine, it's funny.
