I don't think it needs to function like a traditional quote reply would.
Since we have the @ functionality, could have a reply button on someone's post to automatically start your next message with @theirusernamehere which is more natural for conversations and also gets the attention of the poster being replied to.

This is the major feature I'm waiting on before I run contests. I want there to be a robust reply feature in place.
