from what i understand, it means its an immeasurable rank. so like a typical ranking system with c, b, a, a+ and so on, EX rank would be in a class outside of those.

EX rank can mean alot of things in these types of series,
it could be (EX)ceptional, (EX)tra, or a rank that can't be determined by the normal rankings of [SS, S, A, B, C, D, F]
