Just some trivia. The story about the Lord and Monkey is about Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, 2 of Japan great warlords and country unifiers. Hideyoshi has the nickname Saru (monkey). At that time, Hideyoshi was just a lowly servant of Nobunaga. One winter, Nobunaga told Hideyoshi to bring him the sandal so he could go out. When he wore the sandal, he noticed that the sandal was warm. It turned out, Hideyoshi had warmed the sandal beforehand. Due to this event, Nobunaga noticed Hideyoshi and Hideyoshi started to rise in rank.

That last bit is a reference to Nobunaga Oda and Toyotomi Hideyoshi (then Hashiba Hideyoshi), his retainer. He reportedly did warm his lord's sandals in his chest.
