Perhaps someone can clarify something for me. Isn't the age of legally being an adult in Japan 18 like in the US? I understand waiting till he is 18 and graduated but I'm not totally understanding why waiting till he is 20. Is it a cultural thing and/or to make it appear that he isn't a kid? (Because yes, I do consider people that are still in their teens kids so I can get that if that is the reason...)

It's very true...three years for a teen seems a lot longer than 3 years for someone in their late 20s or 30s.

There was a teacher at my high school who got fired for fooling around with a FORMER student, who was already older than 18. Not sure sensei is safe even waiting. Sure one's the United States, and they are in Japan, but Japan seems pretty up tight about that sort of stuff too.

I don't know about you guys but this story seems really interesting for me. In my High school, we had a really chill Math teacher who cares for nothing but Math. 4 years later I went back and he was married to a student 3 YEARS YOUNGER THAN ME. They got married after she graduated high school and there was no creepy minor stuff, it was entirely pure, so I always found it interesting, this kind of teacher student relationship.
