Felix is actually a good ruler but he is a little bit greedy and thinks that sacrifices must be made for the country to prosper. So, he thought it would be better to prepare for war before he actually becomes king. Because he isn't a King yet, he can move freely and make preparations.

I had a theory about this manga that I wished had come true: The princess wasn't really that nice of a person initially, but the experience of losing her family to a rapacious warmonger made her dislike violence, and that the MC aborting that tragedy from the timeline would inadvertently cause her to not be the woman he fell in love with anymore. After that the story could go two ways: Good Ending, where the MC has to really work to get her to that place of being a good person, or Bad Ending, where she ends up being a bad guy and the MC has to kill her off in a butterfly effect type scenario.

But I guess we're just doing the typical shonenshit thing where everything the MC does works out just fine with barely any nuance.

Felix invading the country was not part of the deal, and the damages, deaths or not, can be used to further leverage the demon country into a lower position.
It's the demon country's fault, and therefore the king's fault, that a rogue crossed the border and caused wanton mayhem.
Furthermore, they didn't send any warning or assistance, instead he was cleaned up by a civilian.
That they survived isn't the issue, it's that they were attacked in the first place.

Though, i havent read any of the WN, so i can't really say what's gonna happen

@DarkFenix: Emphasis on the fact that *the king* knows the situation. Even if the king knows that you're a "good" person, if the nobles and 99.9% of the country have evidence that you're an enemy, it doesn't matter much whether you're actually innocent.

Demons traditionally value strength above all. The custom is that any demon is free to challenge its reigning monarch; if they win they get to become the new ruler. The current king (Irene's dad) had always successfully defended his position until Felix came and squarely beat him.

At this point in time, ruling power had not yet been transferred to Felix. He left early because he felt his current position allowed him to move more freely to prepare for war.

Although the current king gets to keep his position since Felix is now dead, Felix's victory has eroded the citizens' trust in him due to his earlier defeat. This is very prominent with the pro-war faction, who see the king as clinging on to power and desire his removal regardless.
