So could somebody tell me what's going through this girl's head? She just walks up like a stiff knob and asks if he can do magic augmentation.

Did he do something to give it away? Was there any reason or build-up leading to this? Cuz I've looked this scene over dozens of times now and I've got nothing.

This is like going to a supermarket and asking the guy at the cereal isle if he knows how to build a nuclear reactor.

Please tell me what I'm missing. Whether it's information from the manga, light novel, or the author's Twitter, I don't care. I just want to understand this stupid plot point.

@Wilhelm_Stenvall His crest this time is specialized for close range, high power attacks. The other ones generally have better range capabilities but less powerful attack capability. The one he had in his past life especially was not that suited to combat compared to the other three, and would've been better for people doing utility shit like augmenting weapons. This sort of thing has been mentioned in multiple chapters, it's kind of a key mechanic to their magic system.

@humbleoverlord - yes, that sword is ridiculously light and maneuverable, but as a result, it can't survive combat without being enchanted, and even the previous enchanted sword got broken in a fight.
That's why the girls had a hard time finding a replacement.

eh, i'm not liking how he's supposed to be a genius, but he's so oblivious about accidentally showing off. after the first few times, why does he still act surprised that other people are surprised? he even says each time that things must be different in this era, but then he doesn't adjust his behavior or expectations at all.
