I did those same "weird calculations" a couple of years ago - weighing the cost of a water filter/purifier + maintenance vs simply buying bottled mineral water daily. The answer I arrived at was to not bother with either and just stock up on beer instead.

Our house used to install water filter long ago and gone defunct at some point in time.
Now we just don't give a damn a drink tap water (boiled).

Edit: Also tried bottled mineral water when I stayed alone but the bottles pile up easily

I've been drinking straight from the tap for about 3 years now and my health is still fine.

Im living alone so it'll be a waste of water if the load is too small, dunno but it might be different when you're living with your spouse
