Actually in the 1st generation of characters in Romance of 3 kingdoms era, only Yuan Shu want to be an emperor and got put down immediately because of that, all other didn't thought about become emperor at all, even Cao Cao. Only when Cao Pi claim the throne, Liu Bei follow and become Shu emperor.
