Not introducing new characters, and focusing the story solely on the 2 leads is what tends to cause rom-com manga like this to get axed.
It causes the same jokes and stories to keep repeating, making it stale and boring.

New characters, whether they are there to prolong the plot or just for a gag, are always good to see.
