I think Fujita does great with building up characters but sometimes it's exhausting how many times he sets up character lore in great detail.

Deido explaining how he got involved with the aliens and ANOTHER background check on him and his sister
That's not including all the brief chapters on all the other characters, which I give a pass to because they are, as mentioned, brief.
At the very least, it's not as lengthy as explaining the 200 year history of multiple semi-immortals. But sometimes I just toss back my head and think "God it's another flashback".

At the very least, it's not as lengthy as explaining the 200 year history of multiple semi-immortals. But sometimes I just toss back my head and think "God it's another flashback".

You're not wrong, but I disagree. I find the way Fujita works so many seemingly unrelated vignettes into a single cohesive plot to be super impressive. Not to mention the individual vignettes are pretty much masterpieces of storytelling in their own right.
As for the overexplaining, I find it works well for a serialized work like this. How much it annoys you essentially comes down to how irritated you get at a little hand-holding, because Fujita doesn't want to be subtle about these things so he'll explain new info a couple times over the course of several chapters before he's okay with letting you remember on your own, heh.
Plus, you do mention a "build-up" and thats another thing I like, though you aren't necessarily wrong about disliking it either. In my opinion, I think it's good that Fujita reinforces the foundation of his characters before adding more and more layers which might get confusing if you weren't so solid on the foundation yet. And I find he'll rarely just repeat something with 0 new information or change of context.
