I poked around out of curiosity about that myself just now.

His final match is against Huo Wu, who hates Tang San a lot. From the start of the match she uses her ability to push back Tang San to the edge of the ring, and then causes him to jump into the air. She unleashes her most powerful attack, depleting her spirit power. Unable to stop it, Tang San proceeds to use Huo Wu as a shield in order to deflect the attack. But seeing she is unable or unwilling to alter the course, he uses his own body as a shield to protect her, which to everyone's surprise didn't even cause major injuries to his back and his internal organs but rather only a minor flesh wound.

He recovers in a few days and itches to get back on to the fighting field but is opposed by his team members and made to rest. Thus he decides to take it easy and not fight.

That healing scene never happens in the original story. I have no idea why they decided to futz about with that crap in the manhua adaptation, but they clearly also decided "Oh right, we might have to actually see this character around again from time to time if she's part of the academy. Welp, better make that temporary so it doesn't fuck with anything too much."

So, TL;DR: Poor rewriting they didn't even have the stones to double down on
