Wait... dafuq? Hasn't anyone learned from the Issunboshi legend? You're only likeable and popular when you're small. Once you turn normal size, ppl stop giving a shit about you and your future fades into worthlessness and obscurity. Issunboshi didn't even get a future after turning normal size, and this poor chump gets his potential future fucked up even harder?

Did I miss sth? Did the mc do anything to justify his fate? Was I actually supposed to hate him up to this point and wish for his unhappiness? In that case, why even make him the mc?

I don´t think we are supposed to dislike the mc. This looks more like a case in which the mc is a butt monkey for the sake of comedy and not a "punishment".
Also, it seems the mangaka needed a way to have the mc interact with Kinoshita without revealing himself.
