Story of the White Mage Who Can Read the Swordman's Heart - Ch. 8

Look who's back!

Well, personally, I've never had a girlfriend, but somehow I feel like I wouldn't want her to cosplay. Moreover, all those bunny girls, swimsuits, sailor suits and so on, it's like they're pushed on poor readers and viewers by bloated japanese entertainment industry. It's time to lower a gear

@Akikako I don’t think they had sex, if that’s what you’re referring to. He said “yes” to the clerk with a grin and a red face because they had just confessed to each other that night, but I guess she inferred something else. Reread the chapter, the swordsman said there was an order for everything. Taking things slowly or one step at a time isn’t “chickening out.” They’re going out anyways, so I don’t see why it really matters.

@liquidsword Don't you know? If a guy doesn't bang every female he sees that shows even the slightest interest in him, he must be some kinda beta, soy boy, cuck (insert continually growing list of low-effort insults to the same, ad nauseum). /heavy sarcasm

@Vincentius
One thing I can't understand is why there are so many people like that on mangadex. They seem to scour every manga in an attempt to find an male mc they can insult for not doing something they would do in his shoes. And when they find one that does do something that fulfills their perverted desires they call him a chad.

Maybe their insecure or something? Also never thought i'd see someone with a Natsuki Rem/sloth IF profile picture.

Jokes aside, this chapter has a really dangerous sugar intake level lol

@Vincentius What’s funny is that they would never call someone any of those words in real life because they’d never have that same energy in person, so they have to resort to fictional characters.

@Echonic Unfortunately there are people like that on the manga sub on Reddit as well. They just use tamer insults like “coward,” “spineless,” etc. instead of “beta cuck” and shit like that.

@Echonic It's definitely strange; it's like a tamer version of those people who scour hentai websites for fetishes they can't stand just so they can comment about how disgusting it is. And they don't seem to realize that it's really not up to the author if sex gets included, but the publisher; the publisher wants money, which means targeting the widest demographic, which means teenagers, which means no sex at all, lest the moral guardians get up in arms. Hell, I remember the stink that came about during the airing of Gundam SEED because of the (non-explicit, softcore) sex scene between Kira and Flay.

@liquidsword Oh, definitely. If you said any of those to a person's face (except maybe cuckold), they'd rightly laugh themselves silly because of how stupid they sound.

@Vincentius
Truth to that statement, but you are missing the point. People mostly complain about this in scenes where a protag refuses to hold hands, hug or kiss a female that he likes, she likes him and she gave consent.
Moments where there is nothing to hold back the protagonist (and to my knowledge most publishers wouldn't be against the acts listed above) yet the protag "chickens out" anyway, proving that he either did it to extend the magna's runtime or because he's secretly homosexual (the conclusion people jokingly come to to make fun of said ridiculous moments)

These moments are jarring and absolutely ruin any proper pacing that the character's relationships could've had. It's not about whether sex is shown onscreen or not -which in this manga it wasn't to beginwith.
It's about protagonists having zero excuses to deny advances from a female they're actively pursuing.
