I think the number from mangadex is the right one from tankoubon. The one provide by translator seems mixing with tank chapter and magazine chapters (which not all magazine chapter make it to the tank).
As you can see from the raw of chapter 52 (well, it's Korean but use the actual raw btw) https://manamoa.net/bbs/board.php?bo_table=manga&wr_id=3396724
It's clearly said chapter 52 in Japanese, but translator put it as chapter 58 instead since they count some magazine-only chapters before.

I'm pretty sure all my friends had their ears pierced in like middle school. So way younger than the characters in this manga. And it was totally normal, all girls did it.

@karolyn Pierced ears were traditionally seen as damaging your body in Japan, and are still a minority there (though ear piercings have mostly lost their stigma). In fact earrings and piercings are two different things in the Japanese language, the former being clips and the like, and often having a greater selection in Japanese shops.

Some schools and workplaces may even ban accessories like that, and earrings would often be something put on for "partying" rather than daily wear. So it's not surprising he would see it as somewhat risque.
