I've been occasionally wondering this for years, but do the Japanese not have "fooling around"? Like it often seems like it goes handholding --> first kiss --> sex with penetration. No in-between need apply.
@ShimizuShigeno Was the “opening your crotch” line lost in translation a little? Like she used a gross or awkward word, but it was difficult to convey in English? Or did she say something like “spread your legs,” or “open your legs” for him, but tried to tone it down a little? I’m not trying to be critical, I’m genuinely curious because I know you guys do fantastic work and I wonder what the thought process was. “Opening your crotch,” sure did squick me out though ^_^. Maybe that was the idea.
@Purplelibraryguy Is it much different in most American media? Six Feet Under is probably the first (edit: American, my bias here) media depiction of oral on a woman I can remember that *wasn’t* played for a joke. A little while ago to be sure, but I still don’t feel like your hear or see it depicted much outside of premium cable, and rarely there even. Same with oral on guys, handjobs, or anything between making out and intercourse, really. Unless, again, it’s a joke, or on HBO. I don’t know, maybe I’m consuming the wrong media.
Edit 2: One other thought, this is a shoujo comic, not josei, yes? I feel like “sex,” (intercourse) is usually the “holy grail” in teen stories in the West as well.
