Eh, a giraffe needs the long neck to be able to eat plant matter from a greater height than other animals. Otherwise the extremely long neck is nothing but a huge disadvantage, but having less competition is such a big thing that natural selection was satisfied with it. The kid should carefully think about it the next time she stares at a cookie jar on an upper shelf, out of her reach. Like she said, everything exists for a reason.
