A very realistic situation, everyone couldve tried their best and it was still in vain for their patience. A sad reality that I think Asada wanted Ijuin to realize, that saved another patient bit was somewhat uplifting but I don't think that was something to justify them going the extra miles for. That saved patient was a coincidence.
