Tbh I really lost a lot of respect for the author with this chapter and the last. He could have literally chose any other girl and Chise might have still struggled with the moral dilemma but in the end swallowed it.... Stella is purely used just because she is "randomly" possessed by fuckwit and the the drama factor. Make no never mind that both Ellias and Ruth would know she would react poorly. Just felt almost dirty and cheap plot line to force her to leave with Joseph.

Truely have to agree. Joseph is a morally corrupt individual that is more then willing to betray any agreement he makes. There is literally no reason to go with him other then he is there and can offer a quick exit. Its come to the point I only see Chise coming out of this because the author just says so rather then a clever plan or some other plausible explanation.

But unforgivably evil bastard as Joseph may be, he probably does have the only valid solution to the dragon curse problem. Seriously.
Chise having to work with him to resolve this has been an inevitability for a few chapters now.

Still, the way they went about it, and the extremity of both Elias's actions and Chise's response to them, all seem a tad unnecessary.

Huh - I didn't read this as Chise choosing Joseph, I read it as her rejecting Elias (at least, as he is now). What happens with her and Joseph will be determined in the next chapters, all we know at the moment is that she's rejected Elias. We also need to remember that Joseph is possessing Stella, and Chise's not going to give up on getting Stella back any more than she'll give up on any of her other friends, so under the circumstances it makes sense for her to go away from Elias and stick with Joseph for the moment.

I mean, not that I think it's a good idea to go anywhere with Joseph under basically /any/ circumstances, but it's entirely consistent with Chise's personality, and it doesn't feel forced to me.
