this is kinda the problem with tropes like fantastic racism and the like. Yeah, 1000 years is a long time for a war to go on for humans but this isn't a war. No matter how much humans might want to call it a war, fighting a race of giant, intelligent maneating bugs isn't a war, it's just the relationship between predator and prey. With that outlook, 1000 years is nothing.
