The Man Who Killed Nobunaga - Vol. 1 Ch. 3 - Honkoku-ji Temple

"He massacred people for petty reasons but he spoke frankly to those of low status and washed his hands often, and he rewarded those who fought to the death for him, so clearly he can't be described as cruel and heartless." Well, I guess you need to be a dirty, tardy alcoholic who doesn't reward good service in order to qualify as cruel, right? By that metric, Genghis Khan would be perhaps the most saintly man in history, and surely nobody would object to that.

@Grimmycoffee
I'm trivializing the argument the author presents a lot, but it's still a really bad argument that doesn't address any of the historical criticisms of Oda Nobunaga's brutal actions, and instead focuses on completely different aspects of his behavior. This manga is pretty clearly a fanboy's take on Nobunaga.

@boldmonkey I read it more like "every [intended] reader knows about how he was a jerk during his youth and how brutal he could be towards enemies and mean towards friends - but that's not all there was to him".

But your complains are not alone, at least the author seemingly tries to defend himself in his blog https://blog.goo.ne.jp/akechikenzaburotekisekai/e/15d086ee80c45bb1b7a04bc9561a8e4d
