The Misfit of Demon King Academy - Vol. 3 Ch. 12.3

You'd think the bad guy would stop calling him unqualified when he defeats the fused version of the god of time.

@Salfaro No kidding lol. The perpetrator is probably keeping up the farce to make no one believe that he’s the Demon Lord, but that definitely isn’t going to last for much longer, what with Anoth’s power

well even if you try to brainwash everyone, they cant simply change something thats already the origin of a race

That "smile," wow. He looks like he's trying not to scrunch up his mouth after eating something sour.

I kinda need the "roots" concept more explained... It's kinda confusing, it sounds like something like "origin of existence" that can be indefinitely pulled like a backup data to replace/overwrite a corrupted being once it came into existence, I don't really know...

@Rayster
Yeah, you're probably right about that one.

It likely has something to do with identity and the root is the purest form of it. This manga seems to employ the concept of "the power of belief", which is probably somewhat based on Japanese mythology which things can come to existence and/or can become stronger when faith/belief/fear/renown/notoriety increases. However, the root points to the highest form of existence, which is simply existing, and not as a legend, memory, or belief. The MC once asked the girls to believe in him when he was doing that timeline-jumping magic, so it's likely that "the power of belief" is implemented in this story.

MC and his adversary seems to be able to manipulate roots directly. It's basically a reality-bending ability. It doesn't seem like they can create new roots or overwrite anything, but they can merge them or pull them out from a different timeline.

@jonsmth It's not really power of belief in your idea. The reason the 2 girls needed to believe in him was because they needed to use the origin magic. As it explain, MC created the origin magic with his power. Anyone who use it basically have to borrow power from him. As such, they need to believe in him in order for them to get his magic. Which in this case mean that his power was always OP, what people believe does nothing to it. However, if you ever wish to use his magic, you better believe in him

@jonsmth, @trieuvuhoang,
This confusion is why we kinda need more explanations/elaborations on the 'roots' concept lol, the story kinda just jumped into it with MC somehow used it to do miraculous things with ease without actually explaining it, basically only talking about how he can do it but not what do the terms mean (or like what are the differences between Demon root, God root and other roots, and if there's a God root can it be deleted and basically erase the existence of a God permenantly as a way to kill a God?) or why he's able to do it, like is it something anyone could do as long as they have the knowledge or it requires a certain level of existential significance/power? and what are the limitations or costs? Perhaps the story will explain more about it later when meeting other Elder Demon Emperors, at least I hope it does otherwise it's just acting as a "MC's OP abilities" or a deus-ex machina plot device.
Origin magic probably works like a religion or is similar to Holy magic concept in many mangas I think, which the followers of the religion are bestowed the abilities by the god/goddess of that religion, just like in some other mangas where followers of a Fire god are able to use Fire magics, and water magics for Water god followers etc.

@trieuvuhoang
Oh right. The magic casted was a collaborative effort. The girls believed in a fake/wrong demon lord so their magic is a bit weaker that way. But yeah, the MC never really needed more belief power since he's still strong even though the memory (of other people) of him has been erased and corrupted. Well, he is the root, so he is the highest form of existence.

@Rayster
You got something going there. Perhaps most other magic are a form of origin magic. It's just that the MC has a higher level of control over it.

Something tells me that the one who brainwashed the 7 original children was that hero... to make sure MC doens't come back or something.

Calling a Demon Lord a heretic ... xD isn't that kinda built in the job description?
