I still cannot get over the fact that the author just make the MC grow up so fast. Everything else in the story is okay, but the thought that he is technically still a baby is weird.

Sure, if it was without parents it'll still be acceptable.

But a baby you took 9 months to grow suddenly become an adult and a different person. It's very jarring and scary.
