I could see how magnets could be used for the tracking function of his knives shown in this chapter but I still don’t get the whole floating knives thing that he did in this chapter and in chapter 13

Can't be magnetism, there's no tech in the middle ages that can precisely curve the knives to follow a running man, it might be impossible with the current tech. Unless the author is developing the time travel sub plot and makes all of the church executives time travelers, that sounds cool.
