iirc the chapter where Touma meets with his friend, there's a flashback of a girl with long black hair.
The teacher has black hair, but it is short. Either:
- she used to have long hair and changed and we will have stuff related to the past brought back up, (i.e. like your rival role)
- or she is just another classmate who will retell whatever tragedy happened in the past (i.e. like your mentor role)

Yeah, I want the fresh idea tbh, instead of bringing up unfinished drama
