This chapter hurts in several ways. I wonder how much scientific progress were crushed mercilessly for the pettiest reason throughout the history?

The Library of Alexandria was purged and its scholars killed by *multiple* local rulers before it was ultimately destroyed. People are just terrible.

The Grand Library of Baghdad which housed the knowledge stretching from the far Western Europe to the Eastern Asia was burned down because the idiotic Caliph was so incompetent to protect it from the Mongols.

This hurts, not only due to the usual tragedy of the village being burned down, but also for the potential of progress turned into ashes for no good reason. That girl could have become the engineer of the century, but instead became a bitter hunter living in the woods.

When the Library of Alexandria was destroyed, we lost practically half of all of history in one go. It's ridiculous to think of how the world would be if they hadn't happened.
