Why does zoom shrink the main page?

Opera must have updated, and at 100% zoom the page fills the whole 24 inch screen. The only problem is the fonts, and thumbnails are tiny.
Before the update I used the zoom at 125%, but now it seems like it increases the image/font size, but the page is only the inner 1/3 the width of the screen.
If I use large fonts it doesn't effect the width as much but the thumbnail images are tiny at 100% zoom. Is there a way to increase the size like icon size on the desktop?

It seems using a custom max/min font size, and 125% zoom works without narrowing the page view. Weird.
