Witch Craft Works - Vol. 15 Ch. 91 - Takamiya-kun VS. Kayou, Part 5

Oh? She's being very expressive these latest chapters, maybe after this arc they'll take another step?

@Darklight99 that's what a lot of people here never get about this manga, and it's hilarious: Kagari Ayaka IS THE MC!

Also, this is a seinen manga written by a woman, and it's been written to invert a few of its genre tropes.

@1059212 Like whom? If we count battle shounens, he's far more useful than any female love interest in any fight manga I can think of, maybe Noelle in Black Clover is equally important, but he has done a ton of stuff.

@altmaria @DeadintheWater I think someone posted in a previous comment section that this was originally supposed to be a Shoujo Ai/Yuri manga, but the publisher wanted a male MC. The only other males in the series are submissive to the females and barely get any screen time.

@HDMI1 wow that really explains a lot. Now I'm torn. I really like the main couple's dynamic, but I'm sad for the author's original vision not being respected.

Still, the author gets my kudos for the "malicious compliance" :D

@Darklight99 Kagome, Hinata, Nami, Noelle, Ochako, Historia, Nobara, Nezuko, Orihime, Bulma, Winry, Hiyori, Elizabeth, Touka, Tamaki, Power, hell even frickin Sakura are all less useless then this guy.

Don't give up hope on our useless MC just yet.
Chapter 97 looks to be promising with how ch 96 ended but I wouldn't bet your life or anything just yet.

You know what I'm sad about? The fact that there is so much whining about Takamiya Honoka being "useless". So many complaints.

Like, if this were a shoujo ai/yuri series, I guarantee you would not see as many complaints about Takamiya being like that. It is specifically because he is male that people are complaining here. Oh no! A series where a male character is contributing to the story in a non-battle way! FUCK THAT!

It is like Sands of Destruction, honestly, where so many people complain about the male lead being weak. Ignore all of the contributions the male lead makes. Takamiya provides support in his own way? FUCK THAT.

@HDMI1 Yep. Just speaking on the usual dynamics. The author has changed some things from the usual that I think were related to that change. Ayaka's stalker tendencies and so on are really overblown even for a shoujo love interest, and she also got called out for it (usually something that doesn't happen). The weirdest thing about the men being submissive is that the women, who enforce that situation, all get pissed with Takamiya for not training Ayaka to be more submissive to him.
