the raws say "a black cat" not "bad cat" which i think has a worse implication.

uni was abused not because of what he did but rather by the color of his fur.

there is a stigma people have towards black cats, at least in japanese manga. similarly, in "festival of champions", umbreon's backstory was that its previous owner denounced it and called it a devil after it evolved at night.
