This world is basically Warhammer. Every race hates each others and only unite for a common enemy while still trying to backstab the other. We just needs Ork to WAAAGH and Skaven to corrupt the world from below at this point.

That boar was pretty small. That's not what I have in mind when you say "wild boar". Then again, where I live, they are so common they become a pretty huge problem. Especially since those things are incredibly dangerous.

A Census is a pretty good idea. That will give him a feel of how big his territory actually is, and if he also asks about profession and things like that, what are the workforce and industry he can mobilize. On top of knowing how much tax he can levy without starving them of course.
