    A Side Character's Love Story - Vol. 1 Ch. 1

Page 38 -- Not "kiss tempura", but "whiting tempura". キス (kisu) means "kiss", yes, but it can also mean "whiting" or "smelt" (fish of the Sillaginidae family). In this case, almost certainly Japanese whiting (Sillago japonica).

Very good oneshot. Stylistically, this reminds me a bit of the Love & Rockets comics by the Bros. Hernandez.

Miageru to Kimi wa - Vol. 2 Ch. 15 - The Condition of the Heart

I have to admit that there were some confusing passages in this chapter -- so I went off to check the raws. Near as I can tell, the translator had trouble with the slangy dialogue, especially in the last classroom scene. For instance, on page 20, Shuuji's text bubble says "You aren't gonna?"...

    Sleepy Barmaid - Vol. 1 Ch. 1 - Squall

This is extremely promising. I hope the series lives up to the first chapter. (Hmm. Double post, sorry.)

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 23 - Sudou-kun

@red_bean_casserole I might translate すれ違い as "ships passing in the night", depending on the context.

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 19 - Morning Glory

@red_bean_casserole If you're stuck on something, and can't figure it out, feel free to drop me a message. Sometimes it helps to have a second person trying to work out what something means. BTW, I think I figured out what 宿根朝顔 (shukkon asagao) means. My mistake was in viewing 宿根 and 朝顔 as...

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 19 - Morning Glory

@red_bean_casserole Heh. I used to be with a scanlation group that always did explanatory afterwords (we were scanlating a historical manga). I don't know how many people read them, but we got very positive responses from those who did. Anyway, I guess I never lost the habit -- and besides, I'm...

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 19 - Morning Glory

Page 10: Japanese morning glory (here kengyūka, but more usually asagao) is taxonomically Ipomoea nil. For the different varietals listed on the same page: Shukkon I can't make out what "shukkon" is supposed to mean, in this context -- though it is clear that it refers to a particular colour...

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 18 - Sigh

@red_bean_casserole You're absolutely right. I believe the short version (mentioning only peaches, chestnuts, persimmons) is the original proverb -- proverbs tend to be pithy. But there sure are a lot of versions, probably regional variations. Some of the variations I found with a little...

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 18 - Sigh

The proverb translation was fine, just an addendum: the original proverb doesn't mention loquats (only chestnuts, peaches, and persimmons: 「桃栗三年、柿八年」). The addition of loquats to his version is Shiota-sensei either trying to be clever, or pulling Amai's leg.

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 17.5 - Omake

@ayatome No, I did not "use Google to translate 白湯". Do me some courtesy, please. You'll note that I specifically said that 白湯 literally (i.e. reading the kanji separately) means "white hot water", not that 白湯 means that. And yes, you use 茶 for tea -- but 湯 (more commonly hiragana ゆ) is also...

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 17.5 - Omake

@red_bean_casserole I've edited my comment. It could be either one, but I'm willing to bet it's paitan. I don't think it's super-important, though -- either one demonstrates the lackadaisical ("If I can't drink beer, I'll just drink... uh, whatever!") nature of Shiota-sensei. :-)

    Shiota-sensei to Amai-chan - Vol. 2 Ch. 17.5 - Omake

Translation comment: I don't have access to the raws, but I'm willing to bet that the phrase translated as "hot water" on page 3 was yu (kanji 湯 or hiragana ゆ) in the original. While this does, strictly speaking, mean "hot water", it is regularly used to mean "tea". EDITED TO ADD: I hunted...
