Ending felt a little rushed but it had reached a natural conclusion. Maybe we can get a sequel series which can have the romance tag.
The brutality of this series is just so causally. Skinning people while alive, mass beheading, and working slaves to death. Most of which are taken against civilian targets. How is this meant to be better than normal war? It is on the level of a pogrom.
This is not a criticism, just an observation.
Interesting change from the source material. We don't see Kaya being bent to her mothers will or warnings about becoming that. Her outrage over her sister is pure jealousy not fear.
I was dreading reading this, based off what seemed about to happen and people referencing the previous work. Which means I am invested at the least.
