They were never unpopular, and will probably always be around. They're just some of the easier biases to hold.
If violence doesn't have to be justified for you to enjoy it then I'd say that's the beginnings of a problem. And it may or not be the takeaway of the chapter, just the easiest to comment on. There's no reason to attack someone if you aren't defending yourself. Especially somewhere that it's easy to cause lasting damage. One piece of crap attacking another I suppose is the way things go.
Better example would be your brother expresses concern for your laptop because you use it so often and then you hit him in the face.
