I'm not buying all these 'I have to get hurt all the time so that I'll become stronger' crap. I mean, the dude is still in pain even though he's that old already it's like his life is dedicated to suffering. It's just stupid trying to take all threats head on, it'd be more beneficial for them if the heirs are trained to use their heads to avoid threats then forcing their body to suffer all the time. It's illogical and stupid to self-harm when there are tons of ways to avoid the harm in the first place. Someone should teach them how to use their heads.
