@Paladin_T Have you read harem stories? They don't have to end with a harem by default. I have read many where the harem aspect was temporary until one waifu, sometimes even two, came out on top. Some stories all the waifu don't even make it to the end.
A true harem end is a precious things and rarer the more in depth the characters go. Shallow characters with nothing to them but sex appeal often end up as harems but these characters are not that shallow. Shallow referring to walking titties made to masturbate the ego of an MC and provide fan service.
Many writers also seem to have trouble properly comprehending the mindset of a true harem and instead get bogged down by social constructs and other pointless things. True love MC's like this one can also become such an ideal that they only accept one waifu despite forming temporary harems. It becomes a statement on monogamous love being true love or some other bullshit. Fated ones and all that ya know.
The point is while we could go with a Harem route involving everyone up to pink girl and even beyond, its not a done deal. These two however would be the most obvious setup for a Harem in this story. Having close ties and love of a kind for each other. I mean any love interests you could write good romance fanfics about if you just removed the MC are prime candidates for Harems. Assuming they fit the sexual requirements of course. If you removed Ni Lie and made them both gay/bi this would immediately write itself as such a story. Without MC powers it would likely be rather tragic however, just like the MC's past.
