People getting mad at the father are really naive, what she did could have caused an unnecessary war with the Dark Moon family leading to many deaths, the way I see it the father is being soft. She could have destroyed her family just because she has a crush and was led by emotion rather than logic.

@el_ilm @Yamibi I agree, he did look quite concerned about punishing his daughter in such a way but as the family head, he HAD to do it, he can't just says "pls don't do it again" that won't pass for the elders and other high-status members of the family.
As others, I think he was quite lenient on the punishment, what she did could've brought her family in a bad position (especially since the Dark Moon family has a secret powerful backer apparently).

About her scars @Yamibi, I believe his father will have her skin healed asap (to at least lessen the scars or completely heal them if the whip didn't scratch it too deep), he talked about sending her for marriage, I guess he wouldn't spoil her "value" as a bride as in these times, scared brides were considered worthless when sent for marriage (it could even be seen as an insult to the family she's sent to).

I believe an appropriate punishment would've been much, much harsher if he wasn't her father and if she wasn't planned for marriage. Any other member of the family who'd do such a thing would be considered a traitor and at best, exiled from the family.

On the subject of the other father being sort of terrible for disowning his daughter too, y'all forget shit too easily. Go back to the marital fight over that one dumb ho that the MC didn't even want to participate in. Northern Guardian sounded like he kind of wanted his daughter to just have a happy, normal life instead of getting involved in political power bullshit. Even she is possibly misunderstanding him currently because everyone knows he's strict anyway, but that whole thing may have been his way of caring for his daughter by allowing her to be with the one she actually likes despite him being some country bumpkin commoner.
