Fuck other cultures. To say respect culture as if it's some sort of achievement is ridiculous. It's like saying respect Toyotas or Indians. How bout respecting things that have earned respect? And in the case of cultures, some cultures are simply better than others and people use that word to justify archaic and draconian practices. You really want me to respect Sharia or the Caste System? Your basis for argument is "that's their normal". It's circular reasoning. You're not arguing on the merit of the culture or their beliefs but the fact that they have those beliefs. It's a basic fallacy.

A truly homogeneous society is impossible; a society that places importance on homogeneity mostly breeds widespread social censure, so people with preferences outside of the understood norm keep quiet about them. If you aren't attractive in the eyes of your society, you just need to run into someone who likes those traits and is strong enough to brave other people's disapproval for your sake.

There's nothing wrong with breaking off a marriage because you aren't attracted to the other party or because you can't handle the social pressure of it, but frankly? Fuck that guy for saying it in a way that implied that she was subhuman and unlovable!
 
Each culture, each era has their own definition of what's common, what's acceptable, and what's beautiful.

I remember there was a time when women are more beautiful the fatter she is, because it defines the family's wealth.
There are also societies who want their wife to be stay at home and care for all their children or maybe go to a housewife gatherings when the husband is away at work.

I believe there are many other versions.

Not really. You can see Tanjiro running already, probably at the time he noticed she would take the attack he was already running, this might be the case for the others as well.
