From what I have read it's more like:
World A: Takumi^A & Yuu^A
World B: Takumi^B & Yuu^{B (Nyaachi)}

At a rail switch, Takumi^A and Yuu^{B (Nyaachi)} somehow ended in World C.
There may or may not be a very confused Takumi^B and Yuu^A in an unknown World D.

Then again, it may just be my headcanon.

That does seem to describe things fairly well.

Although, my impression was that something bad was happening with his original train, like it was starting to go off the tracks; that there would be no survivors from his world of origin.

Yeah. There does seem to be a bit of that.
However, part of it may also be his seeing himself as being responsible for her, as they are both strangers to this world, and, while not his wife from his world of origin, every indication does support her being a cognate of his wife. But... there's a sense that she's not as mentally sharp as his wife was, the implication being that the cat demi-humans aren't as capable mentally, so even if she's not quite his wife, he doesn't want to abandon her. And she does seem attached to him, emotionally.

So, the question remains, how happy is he with Nyaachi Not-Yuu? And, while they are sleeping in the same bed, is there anything beyond that occuring there? He does seem like the sort who wouldn't do bed activities without a certain level of attachment being felt, does he feel that level of attachment as of yet? Is it possible for him to, given her apparent mental level?

But seriously. This thing about turning his wife into a different person really sucks for him. I don't believe there is something happening between them.

My guess why she turned out that way is, that both got summoned during an awful train crash. He wasn't injured, but his wife was kill and reincarnated or so badly inured (and her brain damaged), that she was regenerated with the live force of a cat.

It is supposed to be a lighthearted manga but man that was a total gut punch. Poor dude, the love of his life is no more and he has to live asking himself if Nyanchi is her or not.

@killercool I think it's a little different. I think his wife actually underwent a transformation for some reason or another. Otherwise, the wedding ring wouldn't be loose.

I like this theory the best, perhaps because it changes the seeming cruelty of fate into a kind of mercy. In any case, Nyaachi seems to be very young. I would expect Takumi to be willing to wait for her to grow up, before trying to resume any intimate marital relations with her.
