I get the feeling the author skipped a chapter or two to explain why these people are such assholes all of a sudden. The monk`s behavior isn`t surprising since we saw before that he`s definitely no saint, but such fickle behavior from the crowd is pure bullshit.

These two assholes have appeared a few times already which explained the build up.
They first appeared in the prolog (chapter 0) when Cheong steals there money pouch.
There second appearance is in chapters 10/11 where they steal everything that the Madame has given to Cheong and destroyed her house.
This is just a continuation of a already volitile situation.

I didn't mean the two rapist, but the bystanders who suddenly turned on our MC without a reason. Just a chapter before this rape attempt happened everyone was being nice to her. The change is just too sudden, at least to me.

This manhwa is unfortunately, quite historically accurate.
In that time people’s opinion often did flip on a dime over absolutely nothing. If you add the fact that the MC is female and therefore not worth much more then property, you arrived at the actions of herds of sheep.
So basically she’s only worth a dam when she’s being the sweet daughter serving her father (a man). She has no value to society beyond that because she’s female and it shows in their actions.
