Its law that sage's in Stories like this are all fucking idiots despite been named a sage

What a suck of people who are those of the hero's party.
In particular the sage, you have the sage class and shoot similar crap.
Sooner or later we all grow old and then you too (if you are still alive because I hope they die badly) you will have to suffer the same problems.
I'm sorry for Alan, maybe he is the only one with the healer who is not rotten inside but seeing who he is carrying around will also be losing face. -_-

why are Sages always such assholes?, unless the sage is the MC they usually are conniving assholes or straight up psychos

@pandatime @Ifrittuccia @Hollow7F

Frankly, Sages would mean wise men, but it's usually used instead of wizard , to symbolize just how badass of wizard they are (anyone who can cast a few spells would be a wizard, but someone who can cast lots of great spells would be a sage, because they're that much more powerful). Or if there's a class change system, wizard either becomes archwizard or sage.

And just because they're wise, doesn't mean they can't be assholes.

Ifrit, the MC's particular problem is unique. They have no knowledge of similar nor a solution to it, so he can be rather assured it won't happen to him.

Maybe you should've killed them while they were young, that would've taught them.
SMH these people have no sense of gratitude.

At first: "Please don't let the Hero party be full of assholes, that's so worn out and fucking boring"
And then: "Oh, yaaay, they're nice people!"
AND THEN: "But some of them aren't? Why?"
And finally: "And the Hero is, truly, a hero. I have no idea how to feel right now."
What was the purpose behind making the Hero party split between being absolute fucking insufferable twats that'd usually be thrown under the bus, and people with actual common sense? Either go full retard or quit the cliche. What is there to find in the gap in between?

@Robbini
Not to say you're wrong, but the guy essentially asked: "Why does it seem like every single author likes making the "smart people" into assholes?"
And I can understand where he's coming from. I can't give precise examples, but I also feel like the "characters with glasses" tend to be sadistic and narcissistic, for no good reason other than being a cookie-cutter antagonist.
P.S: Ifrit meant that the Sage will one day will become weak and frail, and being a Sage means that he's wise enough to understand that if he laughs at someone's plight, he potentially laughs at humanity's plight, with himself included. Even if he's "wise", he's much more of a cynical twat, and honestly, it's not really enjoyable.

@Solipsist
Smart people tend to have the iq to think of a lot of ways they're better than others, just to satisfy their pride.
There's generally two types of sages in fantasy, let's call them the class and rank ones.
Class one is merely that they have way more aptitude than other mages or wizards.
Rank one is that they've got enough experience and skills to be granted the title of sage.

Eg. the first one they start from Lvl 1 Sage directly and just improve, the 2nd one they might start as a Lv 1 mage, then a wizard, then an archwizard, then a sage.

Wow, I'm thinking the sage is the culprit. Couldn't take having competition, the MC is wise with experience and in full form probably better at magic too. The sage was so jealous he cursed him. I mean it's a bit of a cliche that the arrogant asshole is the bad guy but something tells me this author isn't that subtle. If there's a gun hanging on the mantel in the first act, someone is getting shot in the second. His shit personality is the author way of foreshadowing he is the bad guy.

how does he not have money saved up? he was the most powerful mage in the world and took on a bunch of hard quests. he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would waste all his money on luxuries so where did it all go? on regular expenses? if that's the case then how in the fuck is there a single adventurer in that city? if the strongest of them can barely get by then how can any of the weaker survive?

It wasn't 10 years, it was just 1. And he was kicked out of the party half a year later.
