King might just be saying what he's read from manga, but his first suggestion - the dance class - is great advice. Most of the time, depression saps any energy for enjoying the hobbies you love. Picking up a new hobby that gets you out and about, even if you don't enjoy it, and especially if it is somewhat physical (i.e. dance or group cycling) can be alleviating.
