They only did it because it was the most comfortable chopping height for them. However, their comfort is of low priority compared to the usefulness of the planks.

@hijklol100 He has hundreds of years of memories stored in his body and immediately stated that making a plank bridge is the "normal" way to cross a swamp. I would imagine that he has cut down a few trees in his time. Also considering he's an expert at everything since he's the MC, he should be good at cutting down trees too.

@krispy Hmm... He's using them? He needed the trees chopped to make plank bridges over the toxic water. If they hadn't left long stumps, the planks could have been longer and thus more usable. Or alternatively less trees would have needed to be felled. The stumps themselves won't be useful for his purposes.

@givemersspls Haha, of course I'm overreacting. This is a cultivation manhua and the men are bandits. Neither Nie Li nor them would give a damn about trees. However, not much else to talk about in this chapter, and that just happened to be something I noticed when reading the chapter.
