@solipsist True, you'd at least hope that even idiots would have some kind of self-preservation that would lead them to stop acting a certain way to ensure their safety, but this kid probably still believes that he's to some extent not touchable. He sees that all these heroes are literally throwing their lives to save him and he knows that he has their full protection. So even if he does feel fear, his trust in the heroes lead him to instantly go back to being cocky when the heroes show up. Especially with S-class heroes. Maybe if he understands that even S-class heroes cannot always save him will his confidence based upon his reliance on the heroes be broken.

Ugh, why do only the shit characters remain. The goddamn fame-obsessed “leader” and the shit Waganma were the only two besides fat hero guy to not be slashed and/or potentially have died in the above-ground group. They were being self-sacrificial, I get that, and that proves that they’re good people, but it’s just so bleeeegh that Waganma didn’t even get a scratch and is still talking unwarranted smack
