I refer to the relevant entry on "egg" from Urban Dictionary:
"A trans person who hasn't awakened to knowing that they are a trans person yet When I was an egg, I loved playing as female characters in games and it made me happy to be called a she in my guild."
In this case, the main character's excuses to themself about picking a female character is basically a trope within the MtF egg/trans community as a very common reflection of eggness. (Yes, there is something like an egg community even though self-identifying as an egg basically means you've already "hatched"). Of course, the reasons the main character gives are valid in-and-of-themselves and don't make somebody an egg, but they are also very common "excuses" made by eggs to describe their actions without acknowledging their underlying gender insecurity. Which is why I made the joke. Which I have spent probably too much time explaining now.
@ma_zedong
Thank you very much for the explanation.
I guess I have just given up trying to understand these folks. I've read your explanation a couple times now but there's so much "egg" in there that it simply refuses to enter my brain...
Whenever I create a character for any game, it's either based on how it looks or I have made up an entire backstory for it in my head (basically made an OC). My own gender or gender preference was never part of it so can't say I can relate to any of that.
The premise is so retarded. Who the fuck ends up being close enough to setup an irl meeting yet can't be bothered to take it to voice chat first. Hell, in this day who even plays multiple night-long sessions with the same person without realising they could have saved hours of typing by just exchanging discord infos.
