If summoners are this op and versatile then I really don't get why they aren't popular. Even the weaker salamander like Hinata's can help with cooking or blacksmithing, they're so useful
@Ahodegozaimasuru from what I remember, the reasons were due to the cost in obtaining the necessary jewels and tools in obtaining a summon. Then there's the danger in the journey to find a summon to make a contract, making it even more difficult. I think there is a 3rd reason, which I can't remember from the novel. It should have been explained in the episode with the competion at the school.
IIRC, the reason summoners aren't in proper use. Is that without proper support at the beginning, it's practically impossible for you to even get your very first summon, since it had to be 1v1. Mira was the first person, I think, that managed to figure out a way to easily get summons in the first place. And then figure out ways to level them up easier or the fact that you can give them skills.
It's basically, like playing Pokémon but you've to start the game with the safari zone and your character might die if you fail the capture. Also Pokéballs are super rare, figuring out how to capture the summon is basically trial and error. etc etc. So very few people even bothered. Because "why bother getting a dragon that can breath fire, when I can just cast fireball myself that will do more damage than one?" (Assuming it's not one like Mira & Cleos)
if it's this reality, then in short normal NPC can't afford it, since it requires early carry or good eq to 1v1 your first summon (has been explained early in the story, along with other people above elucidating further the problem why)
if it's back when this is still a game, the meta is warrior class
nine sages were a bunch of magicians who gathers in one guild to tweaks or minmaxing build so that it can match the meta
also, luminaria, meirin, and valentine can dish out more damage than mira
@riao Not to mention a summoner can have multiple types of summons and each one you have to raise yourself. Which is very time consuming so I bet most ppl didn't feel like doing something so tedious.
