I mean, if the beast people have art, written language, functional stereoscopic vision and can see monochrome images in a spectrum that at least partially overlaps with the spectrum that humans can see (these all seem to be the case) then she can just draw them a picture. What would you think if your dog found a crayon and drew you a picture of itself running around outside of your house?

Edit: Other than "My god, how did he draw the grass so neatly? He has no thumbs!" Aki doesn't have that issue.

@Alhazred23: You know drawing a picture doesn't always mean "I want this"? People show images to others just for the sake of showing them all the time.
Also if the dog is that smart it'd probably know going to that door, make some sound for my attention and give me the puppy eyes would be the 'language' I recognize more.

Also, just because she can doesn't mean she want to communicate that way.

@WhimsiCat Why are you quibbling about the different possible interpretations of art? That an animal is able to produce an image that can be interpreted in any way other than "I can see this/I have seen this" indicates a level of intelligence that should implicate higher level sapience, which opens the door for dialogue.

Also, why would she not want to communicate in any way that she can if she fears for her life and doesn't want these huge, powerful creatures to hurt her?
